BREED PROFILE
The Bengal is a relatively
new breed of cat which was first bred in the USA and was originally created
by crossing an Asian Leopard Cat with a domestic cat.
The goal in developing the domestic Bengal was to preserve
a strong physical resemblance to it's beautiful wild ancestors traits,
such as a love for water, a love for heights, a wild look and a silky
soft shorthaired pelt which does not shed as much as a domestic. There
is a little bonus, something it's Asian Leopard Cat ancestor, nor any
other breed of cat has - "glitter", small fine golden hairs that sparkle
in the sunlight!
The Bengal come in a variety of colours and patterns,
mainly spotted or marbled on a background ranging from tawny orange, brown,
gold, buff to white.
Kittens are born with their full markings which fade between
3-12 weeks and return to their beautiful colours around 5 months.
To sum up, the Bengal is self-assured, affectionate and
playful, with the stunning looks of it's wild ancestor, which make them
a wonderful, unique pet.
