"Master and Commander: the Far Side of the World", is more than an epic movie. It's a story that reflects the courage, the fellowship, the patriotism and the friendship of seamen.

It shows the loneliness of power, the need to support on the other, the importance of the discipline and organization to work in team, the intelligence to endure the tough troubles of life on sea and the strength to defeat the adverse elements of nature.

But moreover, "Master and Commander", is a story of love, passion and enthusiasm. Love of Captain Aubrey for his ship, which it's loved by him, as it was a beautiful woman, who needs to be cared and protected. Passion of Doctor Maturin to discover the secrets of nature. Enthusiasm of both of them to front the challenges that they have to face, one as warrior and the other as scientist.

With an uncommon visual beauty - reflected in a shocking photography -, with such solid and convincing performances played by Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany - who don't look like actors but a true Captain and Surgeon -, with a smart and cared production, in which the special effects can't be detected by the viewers - surprising for that reason -, with the attention on the minimal details of costume and the navigation instruments of that time, with the use of a ship of real size and characteristics - that was specially built for the movie -, with a make-up that reinforce - without exaggerations - the violence and hardness of the life in a war ship at the beginning of the 19th Century and with a masterly direction of Peter Weir, who takes us "on board" of the HMS "Surprise" and incorporates us to the crew as invisible travellers, "Master and Commander" is a vibrating, charming, poetics,melancholy and deeply movie production.

To miss it ..... Would be a pity.

"Capitán de mar y guerra", es más que una aventura épica. Es una historia que refleja el coraje, la camaradería, el patriotismo y la amistad de los hombres de mar.

Muestra la soledad del poder, la necesidad de apoyarse en el otro, la importancia de la disciplina y la organización para el trabajo en equipo, la inteligencia para sobrellevar los duros avatares de la vida en el mar, y la fuerza para vencer los adversos elementos de la naturaleza.

Pero además de todo esto, "Capitán de mar y guerra", es una historia de amor, de pasión y de entusiasmo. Amor del Capitán Jack Aubrey por su nave, a la que ama como si fuera una bella mujer, que necesita ser cuidada y protegida . Pasión del Doctor Maturin, por descubrir los secretos de la naturaleza. Entusiasmo de ambos, para encarar los desafíos que se les presentan, uno como guerrero y el otro como científico.

Con una belleza visual poco común - reflejada en la impactante fotografía -, con actuaciones tan  sólidas y convincentes como las de Russell Crowe y Paul Bettany - quienes no parecen actores, sino un capitán y un cirujano verdaderos -, con una inteligente y cuidada producción, en la que no se notan los efectos especiales - sorprendentes por esa razón -, con la atención puesta en los mínimos detalles del vestuario y de los instrumentos de navegación de aquella época, con la utilización de un barco de tamaño y características reales - que fue especialmente construido para la película -, con un maquillaje que refuerza - sin exageraciones - la violencia y dureza de la vida en un barco de guerra a principios del siglo XIX, y con una dirección magistral de Peter Weir, quien nos "sube a bordo" de la fragata "La Sorpresa" y nos incorpora a la tripulación como viajeros invisibles; "Capitán de mar y guerra" es una vibrante, encantadora, poética, melancólica y profunda realización cinematográfica.

Perdérsela....sería una pena.
