Mothers' Union - Eccleshill Branch St Luke's Eccleshill has one of the largest branches of the Mothers' Union in the diocese, with 49 members (as at the beginning of 2009). We meet monthly on the first Monday of each month, and also for various other activities. The Aim of the Mothers' Union is the advancement of the Christian religion in the sphere of marriage and family life. In order to carry out this aim there are five objects:
For further details, you may visit the Mothers' Union at the national website at
www.themothersunion.org or telephone them at 020 7222 5533. On their website you will find details of the wave of prayer and daily prayers, the origins of Mothering Sunday, and a range of other information.
Programme Our programme tries to help us meet the aims of the MU (above), as well as to provide an enjoyable time for those who come to our meetings. All meetings start at 7.30pm in the narthex (the glassed-in room at the back of the church building), begin with an act of worship (using the Mothers' Union Service Book), and include refreshments (usually after the speaker or discussion). We usually meet on the first Monday of each month except for August, but when this clashes with a Bank Holiday we meet on the second Monday instead. The dates of meetings can be found on the diary page of this web site.
