Question.

What was so good in Antioch?

"Go into all the world, and make disciples of all nations" - Jesus (Matthew 28:19)

You could be forgiven for expecting that after the disciples realized that Jesus had risen, the Christian faith would naturally flow outwards from Jerusalem, which would become the “mother church”, the centre of the mission.

But in fact, that’s not how it happened. The centre of expansion of the good news about Jesus was a church in Antioch, about 300 miles north of Jerusalem - not even in the Holy Land. And the two chaps who headed up the mission were not even members of the twelve Apostles whom Jesus had chosen!

The observant attenders at St Luke’s might have noticed we’ve been looking through the Acts of the Apostles in our morning services. In the next bit of the story we get to Antioch. If we want our church to be good at telling people about Jesus, should we be asking about Antioch?
