Question.

How are you finding Eccleshill, then?

Waiter to customer in restaurant: "How did you find your steak, sir?"
Customer: "Well, I just lifted up the chip and there it was!"

Dear Church Members,

Many of you have asked me how we are all settling in to Eccleshill, and I suppose the answer is that we’re getting there. The boxes are almost all unpacked, and some of the piles of things are starting to get sorted out. The contents from our garage in Hanford are still piled up in various places, pending the diocese’s decision about what to do for our garage here, and I’ve started floorboarding the attic in an attempt to create more storage area.

On a personal level, we have started to make friends here. We still miss a lot of friends from the last eight years, particularly the children who used to be regular visitors to our children - and we’re looking forward to our holidays, which will be on a narrowboat: first on the Llangollen Canal (very scenic) and then around Stoke-on-Trent (very nostalgic!). But life has to move on, and we are slowly discovering a lot of hidden gems in the congregation at St Luke’s.

During August I will be making various suggestions about the ways that we might change aspects of our church life so that they work better. But as I do so, please remember:

  i) there’s already a lot that is very good, and we will try to preserve the good and build it up,

ii) the things I say are only suggestions, and we will decide together how to move forward, and

iii) I don’t yet know you all, so please invite me to visit you so I can get to know you better.

John Hartley
