Vicar's Letter,
Question.

The virtue of the vote

Please forgive me for not writing much about the General Election in this edition of the Link. You've probably heard enough already!

It's not the vicar's job to tell you how to vote. There are committed Christian believers in every political party. They agree in their Christian values, even though they don't agree on the best policies to make our nation a better place. Believe it or not, Christian MPs of all parties pray together and cooperate, even in the House of Commons!

I do ask you, however, to use your vote with care. In May's Link we suggested (in the insert) some features you might look for in a "Christian" manifesto, as well as some thoughts on the way democracy works. I ask you to use your vote:
  - thoughtfully and intelligently,
  - altruistically (for others' good),
  - charitably (in love not hate).

Please also remember that whoever gets elected will need God's help, so do pray for them.

John Hartley
