Since we held our joint Lent Course “New World, Old Faith”, the ministers and committee of Churches Together in North Bradford (CTNB) have reviewed the evenings with a view to deciding what to do next year.

We felt the experience was positive in many ways. It attracted a lot of people (St. Luke’s was very well represented - thank you to all who came), the evenings were well planned and well led, there was a good feeling and encouragement in meeting together, the group discussions worked well and helped people to mix with members of different churches, and the PowerPoint visuals helped us concentrate on the taped input.

There were also some aspects which could do with improvement. The tape’s sound quality was poor, and it consisted of “soundbite” comments rather than debate: we felt live speakers would have been better. There were too many topics raised each week, so not enough time to discuss them in detail. And the material didn’t really direct us to look at what the bible said on the issues raised. We didn’t have enough group leaders, and the feedback tended to be too much by the same people each week. And some of us thought the booklets were overpriced (but others disagreed).

Future CTNB Events:

Oct 5: 6.30pm Harvest Service
at Eccleshill Methodist Church.

Dec 20: 10.30am Christmas
Hymns
at Enterprise Five.

Jan 18 2004: 10.30am United
Worship
at St James Bolton.

Overall, we thought the course was positive. Next year we plan another course, using our own material and paying attention to the feedback from this course, so we hope it will be even better. However, we haven’t made a firm decision on this yet - so make sure you tell your own minister and CTNB representatives what you think, so we can take your views into account!

John Hartley (CTNB Vice-Chair)
