Welcome back August is a bit of a quiet month in the life of a church, so this year we want to start the new term with a bit of a bang. A chance for all our people to hear a bit about our plans for the coming year, consider our church finances, east some dessert with us, ask any questions, and commit ourselves to our future together. We are holding five Welcome Back Receptions on the evenings of Mon 8th to Fri 12th September, each evening at 7.30pm, and we’d like everyone to choose whichever reception is most convenient for them. The idea is that you have tea first but not a sweet - then you have a sweet and cup of tea or coffee during the evening. There will be opportunity for your views and your questions as well as for a presentation from the front. We’ve issued invitations to all those who attend services - but others are welcome as well, and if you’d like to come please give us a ring (for catering) and turn up. We’d love to see you there. Alpha Our autumn season gets properly underway with a banquet in Bradford Cathedral on Wednesday 24th September (6.30 for 7pm). Jonathan Aitken, the former cabinet minister, and a personal friend of the Dean, is coming to speak - not on politics but on a more personal topic: how he came to be influenced by the person of Jesus as he attended a Alpha course in London. Tickets £6. The course then follows each Wednesday, when a buffet meal will be served from 6pm to 6.45pm, followed by an evening’s input and discussion which will finish by 9pm. We’ll be attending as a group from St Luke’s, and in the group time we will be together. A key point of Alpha is there is no fuss or pressure or strings attached to coming. You can come or stop away as you wish, and no-one will chase you or ask you embarrassing questions. Come and enjoy it. John Hartley
