The nation's favourite verse? Diocesan e-mail correspondence would seem to indicate that the following, sometimes heard at funerals, is one of the nation's favourite pieces of poetry: Do not stand at my grave and weep;
What would Jesus have thought? Here's a guess, based on one of the stories he told (Luke 16:19-31). I guess it won't ever be the nation's favourite poetry! Do not stand at my grave and weep,
A poor man laid near to my gate,
But now he's gone to Abram's breast,
"O Abram, send that man," I cried,
"Between the two of us, down deep,
"On earth you had the bible, lad,
"And now God's justice-time has come.
"Then Abram, send him back to earth,"
"I'm sorry, son," he said to me,
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
Remember Moses, while you live,
John Hartley
