Christ the King

Following the success of the two evening services when Bishop David visited Eccleshill and Wrose in July, the Calverley Deanery clergy would like to invite all our readers to an evening service on November 23rd at 6.30pm. Although it's being held at Holy Trinity Idle, it is being organised by us at Eccleshill. (It takes place at Idle because their music group is involved, and they have a lot of equipment which would be difficult to transport.)

For those who like to know these things, the order of service is based on Psalm 68, as the Sunday is "Christ the King". Holy Trinity's music group will be leading some of the singing, but there will also be some "proper" hymns with our organist from Eccleshill. I will lead it (by kind permission of the vicar of Idle) and it will go (roughly) like this:

  • v1: Let God Arise (MP 405)
  • v2 "As wax melts" Confession & Absolution
  • Christ Triumphant (MP 77 - organ) or another trad hymn
  • Collect
  • v4 "Sing to God": Singing (3 songs) chosen & led by Holy Trinity
  • v11 Ministry of the word - John Bavington (who will choose a reading)
  • v13-15 "Pause for meditation reflection & reception" - David Boyle
  • v18 (Eph 4:8) All go up to the front and be anointed for your ministry
  • Credal Statement
  • v21 Crushing the crowns of the hairy (intercessions to be revealed!)
  • v24 Procession of musicians: everyone who plays a musical instrument is invited to bring it and join in "Make Way" (Kendrick)
  • v28 Show your power O Lord (MP 596)
  • v29 Collection for Christians Against Poverty
  • Crown him with many crowns (MP 109) or another trad hymn.
  • Blessing and bunfight.

Everyone is welcome. We do seriously mean that anyone who plays a musical instrument is welcome to bring it and join in. Let's all have a wonderful time praising the Lord!

John Hartley
