A Christian Country? A recent e-mail drew my attention to The Christian Institute and its work, and gave me rather a shock. We all know that society's views on moral issues change. I think most of us don't realize how much and how fast they are changing. In just one year, Section 28 has been repealed, the cannabis laws downgraded, "gay marriage" proposals have been backed, and laws to prevent religious organisations only employing believers on their staff were introduced. The police considered prosecuting the Bishop of Chester for his orthodox Christian views on homosexuality, and a change in the relevant law is being drafted. There are many more stories in the 16-page free newsletter about such issues - and I must admit that it could make your hair stand on end. In many cases these changes are gradual developments, and they happen almost unnoticed as Christians dislike making a partisan fuss. Maybe it's time to make a fuss? Why not find out more for yourself, from P O Box 1, Newcastle-upon-Tyne NE7 7EF, tel 0191 281 5664, or by looking on the web site www.christian.org.uk ? John Hartley
