The Chorltons' Commissioning Service

On 4th April, Joy, Jackie and I went to St Matthias Church, Burley, Leeds to witness the Commissining of Chris, Angela and baby Anna Chorlton.

The church was full of family and well wishers from near and far, some as far away as Birmingham, and there were many representatives from the Link Churches. The Rev'd Keith Trout led the service and the excellent music group gave rise to some wonderful rousing songs of praise.

Speaking to Angela before the service, she was extremely delighted that her CMS tutor, Carol Walker, was able to attend. Carol led us in prayer for the Link Churches and family of Chris and Angela. Some children had written a lovely prayer for baby Anna, who was extremely well behaved during the service. Chris and Angela have been attending St Matthias Church for 6 years and there was some sadness as well as joy as they set out on their new journey.

After the service we were invited to a buffet lunch which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. The hospitality and fellowship extended to us was excellent. Anna has grown somewhat since Chris and Angela visited us: she is a beautiful baby, an exact replica of her mummy.

They all leave for Egypt on 20th April. Chris has promised to keep us informed of their life in Egypt. This will keep him busy as there are 13 Link Churches.

Please remember Chris, Angela and Anna in your prayers. We wish them a safe journey and ask God to guide them and protect them as they go along the road He has chosen for them, spreading the Good News of the Lord's Word.

P.S. Although John our vicar couldn't get along to the service, as he had to conduct the Palm Sunday services at St Luke's, he did arrive afterwards for the last plate of savoury at the buffet lunch, and then some very nice sweets and cakes which seemed to need eating up! He also discovered an old friend from many years ago when he used to attend a bible-study group in Leeds. Small world!
