Welcome to St Luke's Church There are always people joining and leaving churches. One of our jobs is to try to help people feel comfortable, make friends, and find out what goes on in church. Some of that you can do just by coming on Sundays. But some of it you can’t. It’s hard to stand up in a sermon and say “Hang about, vicar, I didn’t get that bit.” And you’d feel you were interrupting the service for everyone if you did that. But if not then, when are you supposed to ask? And it’s hard to make friendships on a Sunday. You can have a short chat, but there’s your dinner that needs cooking, and your family that needs seeing to. There’s time for a short coffee break at church, but not time to bare your soul. And besides that, the vicar is always busy on a Sunday. There are lots of other people wanting to tell him things. How is it right to have a long chat with him then? So here’s a chance to come and find out. We’re calling it a welcome group, and it’s a new venture here. It won’t have an agenda of talks on a scheme of things that Christians believe. Instead we’ll invite people who are fairly new to our church to come along and meet others on four evenings (Wednesdays 17th, 24th & 31st January and 7th February from 7pm until 8.30pm). People can raise questions if they want, or just chat or listen if they prefer. The evenings will be by invitation only, but if you’d like to be invited then please have a word with us. Each evening we’ll invite one longstanding church member to come and introduce him/herself. We’ll do our best to answer any questions, both about church and about faith. We hope to help people settle down in our church, find friends, and get closer to God. John Hartley
