The Church Electoral Roll

This year we prepare a new Electoral Roll.
To be on it, you need to apply.

The Electoral Roll is a list of people who are committed members of the church. Ideally it consists of all those who worship with us regularly and who follow Jesus in their personal lives. Every year we revise it, but this year we have to renew it.

What are the advantages of being on it? You can attend the Annual Parochial Church Meeting and speak and vote. You can stand for election for the PCC and the Deanery Synod, and serve as a sidesman. It gives you a voice in church affairs.

What is the commitment in being on it? The archbishops have issued a guide to this (see below): it means being active in practical Christianity and support of the church. This includes financial support, and we expect all our members to give regularly so that we can serve our parish and pay our way.

Should I be on the Electoral Roll?
  YES
if you are a committed Christian within the family of the church.
  NO if you don’t worship with us, or are “just looking” at Christianity or just exploring our church and haven’t decided on whether you want to be committed.

How do I join? Ask Ruth for a form to sign, and return it by 22nd March. If you need any help filling the form in, please ask.

John Hartley.

Duties of Church Membership

Many years ago the Archbishops of Canterbury and York issued this short guide to the duties of Church Membership:

"All baptised and confirmed members of the Church must play their full part in its life and witness. That you may fulfil this duty we call upon you to:
- follow the example of Christ in home and daily life and bear personal witness to him;
- be regular in private prayer day by day;
- read the bible carefully;
- come to church every Sunday;
- receive the Holy Communion faithfully and regularly;
- give personal service to Church, neighbours and community;
- uphold the standard of marriage entrusted by Christ to his Church;
- care that children are brought up to love and serve the Lord;
- give money for the work of the Parish and diocese and for the work of the church at home and overseas."
