Disabled Christians Fellowship

A local branch of the
Disabled Christians Fellowship
is being started in September,
and we are delighted to be able
to give some information.
If you know of anyone who might be interested, please could you pass this article on to them?

The Disabled Christians Fellowship was established in 1959 to provide a network of Christian fellowship groups, to offer accessible holidays, and a thriving tape ministry. There have been local groups in the Bradford area at various times since then, and we are pleased to announce that one is starting in Holme Wood (below).

The DCF is now part of a wider group called “Through the Roof”, which is a Christian disability organisation working to change attitudes in churches and wider society towards disabled people and disability. The vision is to make Christ's message of acceptance of everyone available to all people affected by disability - both disabled people and their families. Through the Roof is a registered charity and a member of the Evangelical Alliance.

The local group is called Holme Christian Community Church, and it will meet once a month, usually on the last Saturday of the month. Both able-bodied and disabled are welcome. The magazine “The Vital Link” will be available.

Inaugural meeting:
Saturday 22nd September 2007, 2pm-4pm
Holme Church,
Madison Avenue, Holme Wood.
Cost of the meeting 50p inc refreshments
Transport by minibus from your home: £2.
Contact: John Appleyard
(ask the vicar for John’s e-mail address).

Through the Roof’s programmes include a national campaign to promote accessibility and inclusion in churches and church life, provision of instruction and education in disability awareness and ministry, wheelchairs to hundreds of people in developing countries, advice leaflets and publications so churches, organisations, and individuals can be fully inclusive of disabled people, a magazine, family camps, bible study materials, and a web site for 'cyberfellowship'.
