Annual Parochial Church Meeting and Meeting of Parishioners

20th April 2008 at 10.30am

At the meeting:

  • the PCC reports on the last year,
  • the meeting elects 2 churchwardens*, 3 Deanery Synod and 4 PCC members,
  • anyone can raise anything for discussion.

We invite all our members to come and take part.
* Residents of the parish can also elect wardens.

Church of England churches are governed by ministers and Parochial Church Councils (PCCs) acting together. We don’t believe the vicar should be left to decide everything by himself: the church is too important to be left in the hands of vicars (or bishops, if it comes to that). We believe God speaks to each one of us, so our decisions should be made by us all talking together.

The PCC is there to chip in and make sure that the views of all our church members get aired. So we ask people to step up and serve. We don’t want just those who have been coming to church for many years, because the newer folk have views and opinions too and they have a right to be heard. We don’t want just the older end, because the younger end are important. We don’t want just the activists, because the people who sit back also have views and we need to keep them on board.

The PCC isn’t the place for people who want to discover whether Christianity is true, and if you’re “just looking” then you probably shouldn’t stand for election. But if you’re a committed Christian believer you should ask yourself if there’s someone representing your view? If not, why don’t you stand for election yourself?

John Hartley

The original article also gave names of those continuing in office and those retiring this year.
