How shall they hear?

How shall they hear the word of God
unless the truth is told?

Story behind the song

A colleague asked if anyone knew a hymn tune to the meter 868688, as the tune "Pembroke" (Hymns for Today's Church No. 507) seemed very difficult although the words (by Michael Perry) were nice. So, not wishing that the church should be short of anything it needed in worship, I had a go at writing two ... so that my colleague should have a choice.

Here is the first of them - more of a solid four-part harmony job, although those with an eye for such things will notice the parallel fifths, which would score no marks in the text books. I've called it "Snowden".

Windows Media Player. When you click the left-hand "play" button your computer should have started to play the tune. If it didn't, you might be able to get the tune by clicking here, or by right-clicking the link, choosing "save target as", saving it onto your computer, and then opening it with a music-playing program.

Please remember that a midi file of a tune isn't supposed to be a state-of-the-art musical arrangement - it is only supposed to give a basic idea of how the tune goes. Any reasonable organist / keyboard player / music group could make it sound far better.
