He hears me

You should see a media player panel above here:

He hears me

I sit in the silence of my thoughts,
I wonder if there's anyone out there?
I sit in the corner of my life
and wonder if anyone really cares?
I wonder why I am here today?
I wonder where my purpose is?
I wonder if anyone knows the way
To find the one who hears me?

I sit in the silence of the night,
I wonder where God's presence is in me?
I sit in the corner of my life,
and look to the one who died in my place.
I wonder why I am here tonight,
I wonder where my life's course will lead?
I wonder if God will make it right?
I come tonight to pray and plead.

Oh! He hears me!
He hears the very thoughts inside my head.
He hears me!
And knows the words I'll say before they're said.
He hears me!
My God has not left me here to roam.
He hears me!
I know my God will lead me home.

I sit in the silence of my dreams,
I wonder how to make them all come true?
I sit in the depths of my schemes,
and realize that I must follow You.
I wonder why I'm here right now?
I wonder why I've gone astray?
I know that You know just how
To lead me home, You are the Way.

Oh! You hear me!
You hear the very thoughts inside my head.
You hear me!
And know the words I'll say before they're said.
You hear me!
My God has not left me here to roam.
You hear me!
I know my God will lead me home.

Wondering gets me nowhere.
Knowing is not possible.
Why do You feel so far away, far away?
God I know you're out there,
I hear you when I listen:
Yes, I know You are the Way, are the Way.

You hear me!
You hear the very thoughts inside my head.
You hear me!
And know the words I'll say before they're said.
You hear me!
My God has not left me here to roam.
You hear me!
I know my God will lead me home.

The final chorus is repeated once.

Story behind the song

Here's a question for you. How many people do you know who sit down to pray without really wondering about whether anyone is listening, about whether they are worthy of being heard, about what life is all about? And of those people, how many do you know that go through those thoughts and THEN REMEMBER that God really does hear them?

Praying is a daily struggle for people, which was what I was thinking of when this song was written. We constantly wonder, or question, or ponder, and all these lead to the conclusion for those who come to the realization that it's true - God hears us.

Brian Cookson.

Brian posted the lyrics for this song on the Christian Songwriters Organisation e-mail chat group in Dcember 2005, and it struck me that they were worth setting to music. Our God has not left us alone, and he promises to hear us when we pray in the name of his Son. But sometimes we need a song to knock the truth into our heads.

Windows Media Player. When you click the left-hand "play" button your computer should have started to play the tune. If it didn't, you might be able to get the tune by clicking here, or by right-clicking the link, choosing "save target as", saving it onto your computer, and then opening it with a music-playing program.

Please remember that a midi file of a tune isn't supposed to be a state-of-the-art musical arrangement - it is only supposed to give a basic idea of how the tune goes. Any reasonable organist / keyboard player / music group could make it sound far better.
