I want to walk

You should see a media player panel above here:
if it doesn't work, see footnote

I want to walk

I want to walk the way that you walk,
listen to you speaking,
do the things that you do
as you are close to me.
I want to talk the way that you talk,
speak to those who'll listen,
help their understanding
that you are my king.

Spoken by the minister over the repeat of the tune:

We have come together in the name of Christ
to offer our praise and thanksgiving,
to hear and receive God's holy word,
to pray for the needs of the world,
and to seek the forgiveness of our sins
that by the power of the Holy Spirit
we may give ourselves to the service of God.

Lord, we have come into your presence,
the family of Jesus,
gathered all together
to worship and to pray,
so help us turn and say we're sorry,
hear the bible speaking,
bring our needs before you
for you are our God.

We long to feel your Holy Spirit
come on us in power,
give ourselves in service
to you, Lord our God,
for you are our God,
you are our God.

Story behind the song

On Thursday 27th July 2006 I woke from a dream in which I'd been asked to lead worship at St Lawrence's Church, Pudsey, and this was the introductory song to the service which they were singing. I didn't know the song, and I was supposed to be leading it - it had sign-language signs to go with it, and a spoken bit for the minister in the middle. I awoke in some trepidation, and wondered if it was a real song which I'd heard somewhere, or if not whether I'd better get up and write it down before the vision faded. So I did.

The spoken bit in the middle is the Church of England's "Common Worship" introduction to a service of the word, and I will be applying for permission to use it in this song.

Windows Media Player. When you click the left-hand "play" button your computer should have started to play the tune. If it didn't, you might be able to get the tune by clicking here, or by right-clicking the link, choosing "save target as", saving it onto your computer, and then opening it with a music-playing program.

Please remember that a midi file of a tune isn't supposed to be a state-of-the-art musical arrangement - it is only supposed to give a basic idea of how the tune goes. Any reasonable organist / keyboard player / music group could make it sound far better.
