Jesus, help me know

You should see a media player panel above here:
if it doesn't work, see footnote

Jesus, help me know
that you'll look after me.
Help me trust in you
at times when I can't see
how things will work out,
and how you'll make them right.
Help me trust in you, for you're
the God of power and might.

Jesus, keep me calm
when things are going wrong.
Help me trust in you
so I can still be strong.
Help me choose to do
the deeds I know I should.
Make me certain, Lord, that you
will work things out for good.

Jesus, give me faith
that you are close beside.
Help me trust in you
and feel your help inside.
Help me keep in mind
that I am in your hand.
Help me follow you and find
the good that you have planned.

Story behind the song

This song was written rather hurriedly for a school service on the subject of "trust". I'd been asked to speak about Abraham, the supreme Old Testament figure of who it was said "Abraham believed God, and God credited it to him as righteousness" (Genesis 15:6) - yet a few chapters later, when God had repeatedly promised Abraham that he would have a son by Sarah, he passed Sarah off as his sister instead of his wife because he was afraid that Abimelech might murder him so that he could marry Sarah. So did Abraham really trust God that much? Yet the remarkable thing about the narrative is that God still fulfilled his promise - as Paul says to Timothy: although we are faithless he remains faithful, for he cannot deny himself.

To finish the short service I wanted a song to turn this thought into prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to trust you more, and to know that you will look after me even when it seems that things are going wrong. Help me to relax in the certainty of your plan, and to feel your presence, and so not to be tensed up with worry.

Music

Windows Media Player. When you click the left-hand "play" button your computer should have started to play the tune. If it didn't, you might be able to get the tune by clicking here, or by right-clicking the link, choosing "save target as", saving it onto your computer, and then opening it with a music-playing program.

Please remember that a midi file of a tune isn't supposed to be a state-of-the-art musical arrangement - it is only supposed to give a basic idea of how the tune goes. Any reasonable organist / keyboard player / music group could make it sound far better.
