The Lord reigns!

You should see a media player panel above here:
if it doesn't work, see footnote

The Lord reigns!

The Lord reigns!
He is robed in majesty:
he's the God of strength and power
and his might is plain to see.
The Lord reigns!
He has set the world in place:
he's the God whose throne endures,
he's the God of love and grace.

The Lord reigns!
Seas have lifted up their voice:
they proclaim him with their waves,
in their storms they shout "Rejoice!"
The Lord reigns!
He is mightier than the sea:
he's the Lord of heaven and earth,
he's the Lord of you and me.

Your laws control the universe, Lord God,
your holiness adorns your throne, Lord God,
your days are endless and your love endures,
we praise you, we are yours alone.

The Lord reigns!
He is king from long ago,
he's the Father of mankind,
he's the God we all can know.
The Lord reigns!
He is Christ alive again,
he's the Spirit in our hearts,
he's the Lord our God! Amen!

Story behind the song

Sheila, a member of the COIN (Christians on the Internet) music e-mail list, asked if anyone had any settings of Psalm 93 suitable for use on "Christ the King" Sunday (the Sunday before Advent). So here is one - the theme of the words comes directly from the psalm, except for the last verse which reflects the "Gloria" which is often added to the end of a psalm.

After the song was written, and in response to some critiques, I also wrote "God is King!" (number 86 on this web site) based on the same psalm.

Music

Windows Media Player. When you click the left-hand "play" button your computer should have started to play the tune. If it didn't, you might be able to get the tune by clicking here, or by right-clicking the link, choosing "save target as", saving it onto your computer, and then opening it with a music-playing program.

Please remember that a midi file of a tune isn't supposed to be a state-of-the-art musical arrangement - it is only supposed to give a basic idea of how the tune goes. Any reasonable organist / keyboard player / music group could make it sound far better.
