As in Adam

As in Adam

As in Adam all die,
so in Christ shall all be made alive.

We will stand firm, immovable in faith:
for his kingdom we'll work and we'll strive.

All have sinned, and fall short of God's glory;
and so our death is the wages of our sin.
Death reigns over all, we are trapped in Adam's story,
inheriting his nature we are all condemned like him.

As in Adam all die,
so in Christ shall all be made alive.

We will stand firm, immovable in faith:
for this gospel has power to revive!

Christ has died on behalf of the sinful.
The cross he bore was to rescue you and me.
Risen from the grave, in accordance with the bible,
the firstfruits of the dead, he comes to set his people free.

As in Adam all die,
so in Christ shall all be made alive.

We will stand firm, empowered by his grace,
in endurance his chosen will thrive.

Won't you join us in Christ,
and in him be made alive?
For in Christ, we're victorious, we survive!

Story behind the song

I wrote this little song to accompany a sermon on 1 Cor 15:22 which I was asked to prepare for an in-service training event. It seemed to me that the bible verse "As in Adam all die, so in Christ shall all be made alive" needed two verses and a tag: the verses to explain first why all die in Adam, and second what Christ has done to ensure that those in him will be made alive; and a tag to invite the listener to join the singer and get "in Christ". The verses are mostly taken from explanations in Paul's letter to the Romans, the other place where he expands on the contrast between "in Adam" and "in Christ".

Music

Windows Media Player. When you click the left-hand "play" button your computer should have started to play the tune. If it didn't, you might be able to get the tune by clicking here, or by right-clicking the link, choosing "save target as", saving it onto your computer, and then opening it with a music-playing program.

Please remember that a midi file of a tune isn't supposed to be a state-of-the-art musical arrangement - it is only supposed to give a basic idea of how the tune goes. Any reasonable organist / keyboard player / music group could make it sound far better.
