Work on the roof
A new joist propped against the window, prepared for its position in the roof. The end is wrapped in a waterproof membrane so that spores cannot jump from the stone and plaster to the timber, and the joist is pre-treated against dry rot. A slight change in the colour of the wood surface marks the point at which tapering begins: the joists are laid level, but the surface above them has a slight fall so that water runs off the roof away from the tower.
