Watercolor Paintings

"Desert Tree" is a watercolor painting of a tree at the Grand Canyon. The lines and movement in the old branches were really incredible and seem to travel along it's contours. The separation in the tree also seemed interesting to me as if it were reaching into two directions.

"Buffalo in the Canyon" is a painting of one of my photographs of a slot canyon in Arizona. This painting is based on a certain place in the canyon where there appears to be an image of a buffalo looking down through the undulating walls. The colors achieved from the sunlight that peaks through from above is spectacular. It bounces throughout the space leaving behind an incredible vibrance that I have never seen before.

I had to paint this incredible canyon! It is an immense area of very close undulating walls that illuminate brilliant colors as the sun moves overhead. The light filters in from a small 2 to 3 foot crevass in the earth's crust. The intensity of the light slowly fades as it dances off the canyon walls. The warm, rich colors that result are magnificent. I tried to capture its abstract beauty.
